Male Visit Tree Walkers!
Default Acquired a new pair of M/F D. azureus :)

Hi Folks I acquired two new male and female D. azureus frogs today (thanks to a friend of mine) today. I hope to start breeding the D. azureus since I've had success with my pair of D. auratus frogs. I figure based on experience breeding D. azureus is not much different then D. auratus .

So I separated my M/F pair of D. azureus frogs with my current pair of D. azureus to establish a strong breeding line. I will keep you posted.

If one looks closer in the photos one can see the male with the larger pads and the female with the smaller ones (at least in the case for D. azureus). I may have this wrong I can tell from my auratus one is larger (female) then the smaller (male) in size.

Let the breeding begin.

Some photos Enjoy . This is my 2nd 15 gallon vivarium in which my 2nd pair is placed in.

Frogs are GORGEOUS!!!!
Just one thought, put some leaf litter in there (or moss), the substrate tends to bother their skin.

Congrats!!!

Nice frogs, I agree with the substrate situation. Is that just coco-fibre and off topic question will that pothos actually grow out of that stuff? Other than that good luck!

A great suggestion ~ I will get some more plants soon thinking at least one more so it does not remain too over crowded. They seem to be adjusting quite well and they are making their own calls. Quite different then the D. auratus calls they sound more like a "broken light ballast" .

Please do delete the wanted add, thanks

Hi there, thanks for both of your suggestions / concerns regard the pothos and substrate issue. The substrate in my 2nd 15 gallon vivarium is actually not coco fiber in first vivarium I'm using wood chips which the frogs don't seem to mind otherwise I would not have used it. In my 3nd vivarium I'm using a leaf based "composted soil" substrate from my local pet store. When the pothos grows I do tend to trim my plants but not enough to take away their hiding places all my vivariums eventually go through this treatment to maintain the plants and over well being of the habitats in the vivariums

I will find some oak leaves for sure but I would prefer to have them free of fungi.

~ Cheers.

>>> Lol, Oh so do I; As soon as they do I will post the photos of my future D. azureus babies. My auratus breed well but I would love to see some blue tads and blue froglets who knows I will keep that in mind for now I want to see how all my frogs progress in breeding .

~ Cheers.

I thought to mention I did place some oak leaves in my 3rd vivarium for the D. azureus frogs. I got the oak leaves from my apartment-porch in which a huge oak tree is right outside. They usually fall when a huge wind/rain storm occurs, a nice ample supply. Prior to which I did microwave the leaves for 20 seconds or so to make sure no outdoor-fungi of any kind would develop in my 3rd vivarium.

the frogs do seem to enjoy the leaf letter, a good suggestion .

Nice frogs. I would not worry too much if the leaves go through a fungi period . That will feed any microfauna and won't last for too long . The leaves are very beneficial.
Pothos will grow in any 'soil' or lack there of. The roots just sit on top of the substrate, for the most part. You just need some light and some moisture.
Is the 15 going to be the final home for the new ones?
