Default How do I get rid of slugs in my Pum Vivs

I have tried Sluggo in the past with some auratus vivs and it worked keeping the population down.
Has anyone tried it in Pum vivs?
I am concerened for the adults and juvies health along with the microfauna.

Darn slugs!

I use a small cream chesse container filled 1/3 of the way with beer. I cut holes in the lid just large enough for the slugs to enter. Bury the cup so the lid is about flush with the substrate. The slugs are drawn in by the beer. They cannot seem to stay away from it. I have used this for over 15 years in my gardens outside so I decided to give it a try a bunch of years back in one of my viv's.

I used to pick them off. At night I'd come into the frog room, turn the light on and just grab them with tweezers. I also later did the CO2 treatment for my tank. Slugs are hard to get rid off, not sure if you'll ever solve that one. I don't have them in my tank that was infested before with them, so somehow I got rid of them.

So you are saying you removed the frogs and CO2 the viv?

Darn not an option in this viv with tads in the broms.
I tore down this viv down to nothing a while back and sterilized it with bleach water along with the plants (killed a few doing it).
I guess it is cursed.
I will try the beer method, others have tried it and have no success.
Wonder if Bud Light will work?

I think that would be the perfect beer to waste on a slug!

Don't tear it down. Just keep picking and bating then. Yes I had to remove the frogs, but in your case not going to work. There's a finite number of these guys, if you keep at it, I'm sure you'll get rid of them.

Bud Light won't work for sure... if you have slugs with any sense of dignity...try Heineken

Hi Beth,

did the lettuce not work then? I know a guy here in the UK who is trying biological control as in host species specfic nematodes for slugs.

Once I get some feedback I'll let you know how succesful they have been. The nematode is a temperate species - Phaslarhabditis hermaphodita - and availabe to buy here in the UK as a slug control in greenhouses but not sure if similar are available in the US.

Regards
Graham

PS

I'd be wary of using beer as it could be lethal to frogs, especially smaller species such as pumilio if they were to 'bathe' in it accidently - non alcoholic beer would be much safer and still attracts the slugs.

Regards
Graham
