Default First Viv: Good??

Hi guys!
So, I built this tank about a week ago and I was wondering if this tank would work for tricolors? It is a 20 gallon long. It has a small water area that is not deeper than an inch. It has a BIG bromeliad, japanese birds nest firn(probably gonna take out if it gets too big) a tiny begonia that you can't see, pothos, ivy, 2 black film canisters, a coco hut, a piece of wood, and a cork bark flat. In the picture there isn't leaf litter but I added a lot of magnolia from my yard. There is no fertelizer in my yard. It looks really full but I like it that way

Thanks
Alex

nice start, the viv looks great. A couple questions/comments. What is the substrate? It looks like cocofiber or coco bark. If it is I can offer you a few words of caution. I used the same stuff on my first viv and a year later the stuff compressed to the point where I now have a very thin substrate. I think I read you were adding leaf litter which I would highly recommend.

I read about coco fibre compressing. Didn't really believe it though but i'd better watch out... Yes, I have added leaf litter. What is the optimal temp? My temp is around 70, is that good?

Did you use any kind of false bottom? egg crate isnt visable, but how bout LECA? hydroballs. Drainage is key, i learned a while back that just straight soil or coco fiber is just gonna bring issues with saturation.

Looks pretty good though!

Yeah it is a false bottom. No LECA though. Just eggg crate and weed blocker with the substrate over it.

Thanks

Thanks! So, I put the wood in and there is mold growing on it. Is this a bad thing? I figured that it wouldn't be bad because springtails eat mold, so... Do i have to take it out?

Thanks

Hi Alex

Your tanks looks good. A pile of leaf litter would be good. I know you said you're adding it, add lots.

Don't worry about the mold. It will go away and the springs will eat it.
