After seeing the pounding the east coast just got with snow, I figured I would get prepared "just in case" I have an outage. I live in a nice sized town, so I would not figure it would be out for that long.....but always want to be prepared.
The options I've looked at are:
- Putting blankets over the top of the viv. Apparently they retain heat well after power outages. So for a short term solution, it may work well.
- Possibly get those heat packs(24/48/80 hr), and then gather up your froggies....then you would place then in a box with a few of those packs? I doubt you could just put a pack into the viv....suppose that would not be the best idea....
- Getting a kerosene heater/propane heater. I've seen them around and seems it could be a nice option. Kerosene is alot more expensive than the "on top of the tank" propane heaters and last around 50 hours. Any experience with these?
- An obvious one, but wayyyyyy out of my price range would be a generator. In a perfect world I would have one, but forking out 200-1,000 on a generator is not an option....unless i win the lottery.....but then I'd move somewhere warmer....Anywho....lol
Basically, what do you all use and have on stand by in case of power outages?
Just a tid bitt you can always "rent" a generator as well.
The kerosene heater might be a good idea. You wouldn't have to heat the whole house just the room, the frogs are in so its not like they would have to run 24/7
Yeah, thats what I might look at then. Anyone have experience with the propane mounted heaters? They look as nice as the kerosene, but alot cheaper.....but again cheaper may mean other things too....
