I recently got a 36 by 18 by 24 exo terra and am in the prcoess of gathering materials. I have the drill bit and bulk head coming from glass holes and I have already decided on a false bottom so I will be picking up some eggcrate. I'm going to box it and fill the sides in with Leca as I like that look better than the egg crate.
I'm a bit torn on the background. This was an expensive tank so I want to be carefull that what I do will last. Has anyone here worked with epi web or from what I can tell the us equivelant of eco web? I want to get a feel for how it is used in the background construction. I understand it is plastic so after you silicone the back and stick it on do you tend to silicone the front and then pack on the coco fiber and paint or do you leave it. I have also read it is great for plants so if you do tend to cover do you leave some parts bare where you want to stick them.
Is this your first tank?, if you have never done the diy background before I would maybe get a cheap demo tank that doesn't matter and practice your background idea's on it first. Different people have different techniques that they do the backgrounds with and you have to find what you like the best, and what works the best for the desired look your trying to get as far as the epiweb I have no experience as most my tanks have been spray foam, carved, concrete mixed over and cured.
Hi,
This will be my second. I have done the silicone, spray foam, silicone and cocofiber method in the past. Just trying to find out if it is done the same way with the epiweb except that the epiweb replaces the spray foam.
Thanks,
James
Yeah. That is the stuff. Maybe I will just get two small panels and still do the gs background but use the ecoweb in place of any cork bark for attaching air plants.
