So, Our Varadero we got from James 2 months ago were being funny and courting the other night, and I thought nothing of it.. Well I turned their lights on today and did my usual head count.. During the process I found 2 tiny eggs laid tucked inside a brom axle!
First Eggs we have ever seen from any of our frogs!! I am so pumped!!
I am also trying to find info on egg development and colorations and what not. I am going to assume our first few clutches are going to be bad ones, atleast if I assume it, I will not be devastated when they are bad and really excited when they're good. lol. These eggs are basically all white. And I know were laid during the night or early this morning. Shouldnt they be more of a grayish black color?
give it a few days... my popa eggs stayed white the whole time then tad development started and they are still pretty light, where my El Cope eggs are Dark grey with in a day or so.... be patient and optimistic, its in their DNA to figure it out and lay good eggs, trust in the young couple
I planned to just let them sit there until we were certain they were bad. I know there are always surprises and variables. I am just happy to finally have eggs. Been a good long year into this hobby and now I get to enjoy the fruits of our labor!
From all of the egg masses I have had in the Ranitomeya species they have all been white and stayed white. I have not had any of my varadero lay an egg mass with any eggs that were a differant color.....If they start to develop you will see what looks like growths coming off the egg....
Congrats on the breeding.....As far as I know mine started out with viable fertilized eggs.....Not to say your will but it is certainly possible...Good luck with them bro.
thanks again James!! I was hoping you got around to chiming in on this today they look like little pellets of fertilizer and the male has stayed close to them all day long. the female, out hunting lol.
Well the 2 eggs I spoke of vanished. Don't appear to have any frogs in film cans or brom axels. But you never know. Pretty sure with the setup they are in now, they shouldnt be laying. humidity is in the toilet. But, she laid 2 more eggs in the far back of the tank a week ago, on a clay ledge, and last night caught her laying 2 more in the same spot. Who knows how many more are back there cause our vision is blocked. Now, if only they would wait it out another week until I can xfer them to their new home, once that WILL be ideal of tad raising.
Once you transfer pull the eggs that are in the old tank.....Just put them in a container with a small amount of water. Not enough to cover the eggs just enough to cover the edge of the egg mass. Then wait and watch....If they have been fertilized then you will be getting a bunch more....
Should I put the eggs in the new tank with mom and dad? or just try to handle them myself? I fear I wont be able to care for them as well as the parents can

I would just handle it.....No guarantee they will take care of them after the move. They are quite easy to care for to be honest.....I am quite confident you can do it.
