Default How long does mite paper last?

How often do you have to change out the mite paper? It is real mite paper, smells like an old flea collar ! I'm just not sure how long it lasts?

Once you start seeing mites crawling on your cultures, it's safe to assume it no longer works. Also, once you stop seeing dead fruit flies on the paper, that's when I change mine. You can't really go by a date or anything else. I bought papers before that were gone from day 1 and ones that lasted over a year.

Is this from experience?
Personally I do not worry about it, flies stop producing, the containers go in the freezer. I use a mite spray on the paper towels under the cultures when I think about it.
Now as far as sniffing the mite spray........
Never done it.

Never used mite paper before...

We use a powder. It's white and odourless

Hi all,

Ok so I am new to this mite infestation problem. I noticed it from two sets of cultures that I bought online from two different sources. So I am thinking the mites went from on culture to the next. Have never had mites as a problem before. Can someone let me know, what is this mite paper/spray/powder you are all talking about??? Thanks.

Thanks,
Anyone know about these mites, they just seem like such a mystery. I swear I never had any before (6 years of culturing).

Here's another option,

Jurassi-Mite 8.5 oz. | Josh's Frogs

I don't know a whole lot about mites, except they're a PITA.
